Bowl and Mug Exploration
My Bowl and Mug Exploration project was completed in the Spring of 2023, in my first semester of Advanced Ceramics. Coming into this class, I had only completed a wheel-throwing class in college. Through that, I got a very preliminary idea of the different things I could create and try. I had a lot of ideas, and I just wanted to create and learn more. I developed a love for glaze and decorative slip testing. While I continued to build my skills on the wheel and play with shape, I then played with different exteriors, whether it was different glaze layering or colored slip and scraffito. I even went further to play with textures and glaze. My background in studying graphic design at the time definitely influenced how I went about creating a final outcome. It allowed me to think through how I wanted the glaze to work with texture or how I wanted to present slips and transparent glazes. I think the drive to keep trying newer and bigger things in ceramics is something that has continued to stay with me throughout my time in ceramics, and that idea continues to help drive my other creative endeavors.
All pieces are wheel-thrown with a cone 6 stoneware. Some have colored decorative slips added before the bisque firing. All are finished with cone 6 glaze. 📸 By myself with an iPhone 11 Pro in AppleRaw photo mode.
